neighborly request, in d minor.

for the last four months or so, i have been impatiently tolerating the piano lessons being taught in the apartment right below me.  the music is so loud that i both hear and feel the vibration of it.  perhaps the most frustrating part is that i recognize nearly all the pieces these students are trying to play.

today, finally, i summoned the courage to go down there, to politely ask if they can somehow soundproof or insulate their ceiling, since i can never concentrate. ever.

it turns out the neighbors are an older russian couple - concert pianists - who appear to be extremely sweet, and extremely naive in their thinking that their neighbors enjoy the music (they practice for their own concerts, as well).  the long and the short of our conversation is that they cannot insulate the ceiling - only the walls - and that this is their living.  they could not have been nicer, but my problem is now going to be a permanent one.

the question i have to answer is, do i call the management company, or 311, to find out what can be done about this?  i certainly don’t want to get them into any trouble, but i’m also paying rent, and should be able to live and study in my own apartment in peace.  preemptive sigh.
